I have been a member of Shiphay School community since 2000 and have been a member of the Governing Body since 2006. Within the school, I am Head of School, Maths SLE (Specialist Leader of Education) and Maths Mastery Specialist. In addition to this, I am Music Champion and really enjoy all the opportunities this allows me to work with the children across the school to develop their love of singing, music, dancing and performing. I enjoy the challenge of being staff governor as this has allowed me to get involved in the developing of strategic vision for the school and to ensure all our pupils have the wide-range experiences that will allow them to develop a love of learning and have high aspirations for their future.

I am a Parent Governor at Shiphay Learning Academy and have therefore seen first hand what an excellent standard of education and pastoral support the team at Shiphay offer to the children who are part of this community. I am delighted to be a Shiphay governor at what is a very exciting time both for the school and for the Riviera Education Trust. In my working life, I am a Solicitor working for a law firm in Torquay.

I joined the Local Standards Board as a governor in autumn 2021 after my eldest daughter joined the school in the reception class.

I have recently left a ten year academic career in which I directed the undergraduate Economics degrees at Coventry University, after deciding to relocate back to Devon with my family.
 
We have been welcomed so warmly into both the local and school community, and I look forward to giving back by contributing to the school’s governing board.

I am a Parent Governor at Shiphay Learning Academy. I have always worked in education and am currently an Assistant Principal at a local college. I am passionate about all children having access to high quality, positive learning experiences to provide them with a breadth opportunities for the future. I know first-hand the high impact experiences provided to the children at Shiphay and am pleased to have to have the opportunity to work with this outstanding school.

I am a Parent Governor for Shiphay Learning Academy with my focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). I have personal experience to share with the Board regarding SEND as my son is non verbal and autistic. We are constantly learning and this can be challenging at times, but most definitely rewarding.

 It is important for me to know that all children regardless of their needs are being treated fairly and given the best possible experience of learning within the Shiphay community and to uphold the school aspiration to enable all children to reach their full potential in a safe, welcoming and happy environment.

I am now retired.  My working career involved being responsible for all staff training with the HM Courts Service based in London and Bristol.  I have also worked with a Local Housing Association following the re-location of my working life to Devon a few years ago. 

I volunteer to become a school governor to commit to a role supporting the local community.  I have some previous governor experience with a secondary school.  I'm very excited about supporting the continuous improvement focus of Shiphay Learning Academy.  My initial focus will be the important subject of Safeguarding.
