I became a parent governor shortly after my eldest son started at Roselands. I have a professional background in Speech & Language Therapy and am now employed as the manager of a large multi-disciplinary specialist NHS team. Alongside being a parent, much of my free time is also spent volunteering as a member of the local Coastguard rescue team.
I am passionate about upholding the values of the school to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.
I share with the governors board my experience in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), safeguarding, communication and leadership.

As one of the most recently appointed Parent Governors I am looking forward to fulfil my belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed. I am passionate about inclusivity, and this has been developed by my role as a Substance Misuse Worker for Checkpoint, and the Youth Offending Team.
Both of my children have attended Roselands School, and I feel that they have been provided with the opportunity to thrive, with the support of the teachers, as well as the school as a whole.
I look forward to develop my journey as a Parent Governor, which I feel will be enhanced by my experience of working in a range of social and culturally diverse settings. I also have experience in safeguarding which I hope to bring to the role, alongside my passion in empowering young people to reach their full potential.

When the opportunity to become a governor at Roselands Primary School arose I immediately thought that it was something I wanted to do. My two boys aged 5 and 8 years old attend Roselands, it’s a great school and as a parent and a local resident I want to see the school achieve and enjoy success after success. I have been in education since 2003 as a Secondary School teacher and now as a History lecturer in FE and HE at South Devon College. I am also Associate Minister at Riviera Life Church in Torquay which is a multi generational church running many community and outreach projects including a Food Bank (in partnership with Torbay Food Alliance) and a Baby Bank. I believe all this accumulated experience will enable me to play my part and see Roselands Primary School achieve and enjoy great success.’

With a background in education, Liz has worked in several mainstream primary and special schools across Torbay (including those catering for Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, and a faith school) spanning more than 20 years. Formally a foster carer, Liz has an interest in Looked After Children (LAC) and Safeguarding, and a passion for supporting vulnerable children which feeds into her Pupil Premium Link Governor role. Liz has experience with Special Education Needs and Disabilities and currently supports students who have Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs) at South Devon College. Her experiences have given her understanding and empathy for the challenges families’ face. Liz has been impressed with the drive at RPS to continually reflect on all aspects of school performance and to strive for improvement. It’s great to part of a caring school!

I've worked alongside a variety of inspiring teachers and headteachers in my time in outdoor, primary, secondary and special education. I felt that my experience and insight as a teacher and in leadership may be useful to the governing body, benefiting the staff, children and wider school community. I'm passionate about children enjoying school and experiencing a variety of sports for fun and competitively.
Staff well-being is important to me. I know the pressures that staff can feel on a daily basis with the sacrifices that they often make to do their best for our children. With happy staff who enjoy their roles, we can have happy children enjoying their learning.
I recognise the improvements in the school and commitment from the staff that I have seen as a parent over the last 7 years. With my personal investment with two more children in the school over the next 7 years, I am keen for it to continue to flourish as one of the leading schools in the bay, with the best teachers and facilities to help give each child the best experience of their time at the school.

Since my daughter started her education career with Roselands I have looked for an opportunity to support the school. With my son now attending and my wife working for the school I am thrilled to have been accepted as a parent governor.
My professional background is in facilities management and property consultancy supporting education clients which gives me an opportunity to help Roselands in many different ways.
I am keen to help in any way I can to ensure our young people have the best possible start in life and see my role as a parent governor as an important part of their school journey.

Welcome to our Governors’ section.
The Local Standards Board (LSB) is responsible for monitoring standards and school improvement within their school. They hold school leaders to account and report back to the trustees.
At Roselands Primary School, our LSB meets regularly throughout the school year and governors will often spend time in the school to monitor school improvement and standards at a local level.
"Governors are part of the overall system of school accountability. They have a vital role to play in driving up school and pupil performance and ensuring every child receives the best possible education."
