Year 6 Teacher
The Trustees of Riviera Education Trust and Governors of Oldway Primary School thank you for your interest in the temporary post of Year 6 Teacher at our Outstanding school.
The successful candidate for this position will be expected to take up the post during the summer term 2021 until the end of the academic year. The Year 6 Class Teacher post commences on Monday 19 April 2021.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST
The Trustees and Governors seek to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced teacher to join our 3-form entry school to support teaching and learning.
Due to maternity leave, this Class Teacher post is from 19 April 2021 in one of the three year 6 classes. The role is offered until the end of the academic year, in the first instance, with the potential for extension and/or a permanent teacher post next year. Recent classroom experience and a sound understanding of a mastery curriculum and end of KS2 expectations is essential.
You will lead teaching and learning in a year 6 class, planning and delivering exciting, creative and engaging activities that meet the needs and interests of the class. Learning will focus on key skills in English and maths as well as social, emotional and personal development, learning behaviours and all subjects within the primary curriculum. A key aspect of the role will be monitoring and assessing pupil progress, deploying support staff effectively, developing pupils’ independence and curiosity, supporting parents and carers in their children’s learning, supporting children’s intervention and catch up before they finish their primary education, as well as reporting on progress to the year leader, parents and carers, and senior leaders.
There are three classes in each year group. The three class teachers in the year 6 team plan collaboratively, creating and sharing teaching and learning resources and utilising intervention across all three classes. The Year Leader in year 6 is one of Oldway’s assistant heads and is also a Specialist Leader of Education and moderator for the Local Authority.
SUPPORT AND INDUCTION
You will be well-supported by class teachers, the year leader in each year group, Oldway’s assistant heads, SENCO and Pastoral Manager as well as in-school Specialist Leaders of Education and in-school Local Authority moderators. You will benefit from a supportive induction programme and will be allocated a professional and pastoral mentor as well as being given opportunities for Continuing Professional Development and action research through Oldway’s lead school status of Torbay Teaching School Alliance, as a strategic partner of Teaching Schools South West. You will also have the opportunity to join a Subject Development Team where you will contribute to the development of a subject or area of school improvement across the school, whilst developing your own leadership skills.

Salary will be pro rata in accordance with the Teachers Main Pay Scale, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
