Oldway Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section

The Local Standards Board (LSB) is responsible for monitoring standards and school improvement within Oldway school. They hold school leaders to account and report back to the trustees of Riviera Education Trust.
At Oldway Primary School, our LSB meets at least three times throughout the school year and governors will often spend time in school to monitor school improvement and standards at a local level.
"Governors are part of the overall system of school accountability. They have a vital role to play in driving up school and pupil performance and ensuring every child receives the best possible education."

Jamie Parffrey - Chair

I joined Oldway Governing Body as a Parent Governor in 2007 during this time my son and daughter attended and have now both left the school.  I have been part of the school governance during many changes and my commitment and enthusiasm to challenge and continually improve standards has been key to my continued interest.  As a Member and Trustee of Riviera Education Trust, and Chair of Governors for Oldway Local Standards Board,  I am able to influence the long term strategic plans for the Trust as well as monitor and support the schools and ensure the standards in each school are exceeded, providing the best opportunities for each and every pupil.   In my time away from school,  I run Marldon Marquees and spend a lot of time rock climbing around Devon.

I became a parent Governor because I have a great interest in this school. I attended Oldway in the late 70's, my older daughters attended in the 90's and my youngest daughter is here now. I've seen many changes and improvements. I love the positive attitude of all the staff.

I am always keen to involve parents in our children's education as I believe their learning continues at home.

I became a governor as I have a passionate belief that a child's learning and development is the responsibility of the parents as well as the school. I believe Oldway is a superb learning environment and I am keen to support this and assist them in maintaining the excellent relationships between parents and staff that enables children to reach their potential.

My association with Oldway started back in 2008 when my twins first arrived here slightly nervous of what Nursery and school would be like ... it is hard to believe that they are currently taking mock GCSE's at Churston Ferrers Grammar, how time flies!  I loved observing from an early age their inquisitive nature and different ways of learning actively supported by the school.  Due to "our" positive experience here at Oldway, I was encouraged to return to education and become a teacher specialising within the early years.  Having worked within Reception classes for several years, this year as the Head of Nursery, I was given the rewarding job of starting the youngest children off on their learning journey.  I am creative and use this to find imaginative ways to engage all types of learner within an exciting, supportive and nurturing learning environment, building skills for life.

My family have been attending Oldway since the 1940s and, now that my daughter is the 4th generation, I feel that becoming a Governor is the perfect way to give something back to the school.  I am passionate about giving children the best possible start in life and committed to ensuring that happens at Oldway by supporting staff, parents and the pupils themselves.
